What's Happening in Australian Ceramics?

"What's Happening in Australian Ceramics?" is a research project led by Anne Sherman, a ceramic artist, educator, and social evaluations specialist.

The project is Inspired by Anne's experiences navigating transitions into Australian Ceramics after moving from the US in 2019, and her observations of cultural and structural differences within the ceramics communities. It seeks to gain insight into the unique challenges and opportunities of maintaining a vibrant ceramics ecosystem in Australia, initiate deeper conversations, and, ultimately, strengthen the position of Australian ceramics within contemporary craft traditions nationally and internationally.

This project will be shared as a series of articles in the Journal of Australian Ceramics across 2025. The first article, "What's Happening in Australian Ceramics? Part 1: Coming to Australia", will be published in the April 2025 issue. The following article will feature perspectives and insights from the Australian ceramics community - more details to come soon!
